Mary Alexander L.M., C.P.M.

Birth Works Midwife

Mary Alexander has been involved in the home birth community in Little Rock, Arkansas for over 35 years. She began studying midwifery after the birth of her son in 1970. This event was the catalyst for her love, understanding and continued desire to learn about women's birth power. and became a certified midwife in 1977. She has continued to practice and serve in this community ever since.

She become a certified midwife in 1977 and practiced in this community ever since. She continued her education and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BS-RN) from UAMS College of Nursing (1992), became a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) (1995),  and a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT).


Shea Childs L.M., C.P.M

Natural State Midwife Services

While pregnant with her first child in 1999, colleagues at the Chicago Waldorf School awakened Shea Childs to the world of homebirth, and she's never looked back. Her goal is to guide birth experiences the way women enivsion, and to welcome their babies in the most gentle, loving environment as possible.

Shea's philosophy is rooted in trusting the physiological process of birth, the capability of the female body, and respecting  the wishes of the laboring mother.

Shea became licensed in 2011 and has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Arkansas and is also a Certified Waldorf Teacher. She seeks to provide reverence for the emotional and spiritual components inherent in each birth, and an appreciation for the gift of every newborn.
